Choosing the right curtain heading can make a big difference to how your child’s bedroom looks and how the curtains hang.

At Custom Kids Curtains, every curtain is made to measure and can be either carefully machine-sewn or hand finished, ensuring a perfect fit for your window and a beautiful finish that lasts.

Each style creates a slightly different look — from classic and traditional pleats to modern, contemporary headings that form soft flowing folds. Some headings are adjustable and versatile, while others are precisely made to fit your curtain pole or track for a more tailored appearance.

PENCIL HEADING

This is the most popular heading choice. It’s created by gathering the fabric into neat, even folds that resemble a row of pencils—hence the name. This style works beautifully with almost any décor, from cosy cottages to more contemporary spaces. The cords on the heading tape allow you to draw the fabric in or let it out, so you can create the exact amount of gather you prefer. Pencil pleats can be used on both tracks and poles. We can offer a 3" or 6" heading tape (3" being the most popular) Hooks are then inserted into the pockets on the tape to set the height and hang the curtain neatly.

TAB TOPS

These curtains are simply slotted onto your curtain pole through the tabs. They are a popular choice in childrens rooms however they can let in light through the gaps between tabs and main curtains.

EYELET

Eyelet headings create a clean, modern look, with smooth metal rings set directly into the top of the curtain. They glide beautifully along the pole, giving a soft, even wave when the curtains are drawn. We always recommend using eyelet curtains on a metal pole, as the movement of the metal rings can mark or scratch a wooden pole over time.

DOUBLE PLEAT

This is a modern take on the traditional triple pinch pleat. This heading is custom made to your pole/track measurements and is not adjustable. It can be fitted on a pole or track although they tend to work better on poles.

PINCH PLEAT

A pinch pleat heading offers a beautifully tailored finish, with each pleat carefully sewn into place to create elegant, even folds from top to bottom. This classic style gives your curtains a structured, luxurious look that suits both modern and traditional interiors.
Available in triple or double pleat - triple being a more traditional, formal style with three folds per pleat, and double being a softer, contemporary look with two folds per pleat.

WAVE HEADING

These are a contemporary modern heading that hang in soft uniform folds. They are great for areas where you need the curtains to stack back neatly when open. They require a specialist track and gliders specifically designed for wave curtains. Available in 60mm or 80mm folds.
